Our Experience in Field of Energy Auditing and BER Assessment
IHER En
ergy Services has been operating as an energy rating consultancy in Ireland for more than 15 years - thus we have vast experience compared to almost any other new entrants to this field in Ireland.
Bill Sheldrick was a founder and continuous member, assessor, trainer, monitor and examiner under the National Home Energy Rating (NHER) scheme in the UK, and was involved in pre-launch field trials of the NHER scheme before it was launched in June 1990.
Bill Sheldrick has provided technical consultancy services in Ireland since 1994. Since then, Bill Sheldrick has been delivering energy assessments of dwellings and communities, as well as training in energy surveying and auditing skills across Ireland, on a continual basis in conjunction with Energy Action.
In 1999, Bill Sheldrick managed, in partnership with Energy Action Limited, the UCD Energy Research Group, and National Energy Services from the UK, the development of the Irish Home Energy Rating (IHER) energy auditing software under an EU SAVE programme. The development of the IHER represented a technology transfer from the UK of National Energy Services' NHER software (which in itself is derived from the UK Building Research Establishment Domestic Energy Model (BREDEM) methodology which is the basis of the current DEAP 3 software in Ireland).
Between 1999 and 2006 Bill Sheldrick and Michael Hanratty organised a number of IHER Site Assessor training courses both in Dublin and around Ireland for assessing the energy performances of existing dwellings. One of the features of this software was the potential for assessing costed improvement options.
In order that Ireland would have energy assessors in place for the phased introduction of the EU Energy Performance of Building Directive from 1st January 2007, Bill Sheldrick was contracted by Galway Mayo IT to deliver the first Building Energy Rating assessor courses in Ireland in December 2006. Furthermore, in June 2008, when SEI needed to urgently train 50 new dwellings assessors to survey existing dwellings for the launch of the Home Energy Saving Pilot Scheme, Bill was contracted by SEI to deliver four courses around Ireland.
IHER Energy Services was one of the first FETAC approved Building Energy Rating trainers in Ireland, and has run over 25 courses since May 2007, training more than 400 BER assessors from across all four provinces in Ireland.
